Advanced Networking and Future Internet (ANFI)

This MRU covers the network technologies, software architectures, services, and applications that will characterize the Future Internet. More specifically, it deals with the study, the design, and the development of added-value next-generation pervasive Internet systems, such as context-aware applications, service-oriented applications, people-centric applications, multimedia applications, gaming, ambient intelligence systems and applications, energy awareness solutions, and e-health solutions and applications. Moreover, this MRU uses a largely interdisciplinary approach that merges concepts from human and social sciences, security, and ICT. The four research areas of MRU ANFI are:

The educational and research program of this MRU is centred on new communication paradigms and software architectures suitable for the IoT, where a potentially unlimited number of networked computing devices and everyday objects can be addressed from anywhere with a unique addressing scheme and interact/cooperate with one another. Because such devices produce very large data volumes (Big Data and Complex Data), advanced networks and applications must embed a thorough quantitative understanding of human behaviour, as well as new modelling and design methodologies to capture and exploit the interaction with the application and to adapt to unpredictable and dynamic situations.

This program aims to provide students with the tools to tackle the highly dynamic world of the Internet of Things, including solid problem solving skills and an understanding of the key aspects from the design and analysis to the development phase.

The instructors contributing to this MRU are internationally recognised for their excellence in research in computer and information systems. Collaborations with industry (e.g. Telefonica, CSEM, AT&T) and with top universities (such as Harvard, Dartmouth, Uppsala, TU Delft), often within the scope of international research projects, offer solid opportunities for international experiences.
