The research in this Area is oriented towards studying, modeling and simulating thermo-fluid dynamics problems. Among the topics of high interest of this Research Area are heat transfer and energy. In particular, research topics covered include renewable energy (CSP; CPV) and energy storage.

In particular, core competencies are:

  • Analysis and numerical modeling of complex phenomena related to thermo-fluid dynamics;
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics;
  • Thermal fluid-dynamics simulations of stationary and time dependent phenomena;
  • Heat exchange;
  • Thermo-Fluid Dynamics of renewable energy systems;
  • Energy storage.

Students will acquire a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of Thermo-Fluid Dynamics, and will be able to:

  • Analyze and critically evaluate systems which deal with fluid flow and heat transfer;
  • Define the most appropriate models to describe fluid flow and heat exchange phenomena;
  • Use properly and effectively CFD simulation software;
  • Evaluate energy performance of components and systems.

Students will acquire or improve knowledge and skills in Energy related topics such as Energy Efficiency, Energy Storage and Renewable Energy Technologies.
