  • Description
  • The aim of the Bachelor in Architecture course is to train professional architects who can immediately join the world of work in operational roles.
The course has been designed in such a way that students acquire the experience that is indispensable for developing a project, from the first draft, right through to the executive and construction phase.
Students complete modules in Design, Construction, History and Theory of Architecture, Structures, Applied Sciences, Energy and Environment, Management, tackling the same issues as those dealt with in architecture studios.

Objectives

The SUP Bachelor course in architecture cultivates the aptitudes and skills appropriate for developing design and execution solutions that will enhance the constructed environment.

The programme provides direct access to the world of work, producing graduates who can take on progressively more complex skills and responsibilities in the various sectors related to the activities conducted by design studios, public technical offices and building contractors.

A generalist approach is adopted, allowing students to learn theoretical and practical concepts, and to acquire professional, methodological, social and personal experience.

In particular, students learn the cultural references and local customs, and therefore develop design and construction ideas that are coherent with innovative and sustainable architectural solutions.

The specific professional profile is constructed by the acquisition of didactic competences that cut across the various subject areas related to the profession of architecture.

Skills

The programme is based on topic modules where the individual courses take cognizance of the daily reality of the working world.

First-semester architecture students develop tangible projects, the construction and execution aspects of which are refined and studied in greater detail. The relationship with the requirements of the profession, and the interdisciplinary approach, are vital components. In the workshop, reciprocal collaboration with teachers, and the coordinated development of projects, means that the knowledge acquired during seminars, and during more traditional lessons, can be applied in a practical and effective manner.

Admission requirements

Applicants with the Federal Certificate of Proficiency (AFC) and school leaving examination from a technical secondary school (MPT) or artistic secondary school (MPA) in a profession related to the field of study, or with a diploma from a specialist technical college (SSST) related to the selected course of study, are admitted without examination. Applicants with general secondary school leaving examination or leaving examination from a commercial secondary school (MPC) are admitted without examination provided they have completed one year of on-the-job experience, recognised by SUPSI, in a field related to the selected course of study. The department can arrange this work experience year. Applicants aged more than 25 and who lack these qualifications may be admitted on the basis of their prior learning, provided they have significant training and work experience. Applicants with a diploma in surveying (Italy) or an industrial construction expert diploma from an Upper Secondary School (Italy), or a school leaving examination from a five-year artistic secondary school (Italy) are admitted after having successfully completed an aptitude test.

Career prospects

Students awarded a Bachelor in Architecture possess practical and theoretical skills in the fields of construction, structures, science, technology and management, aimed at designing and executing projects in a professional manner. The cultural understanding acquired will allow them to develop a design idea while observing architectural quality. They will be able to collaborate with specialists and operators who participate in the development of a project, and to coordinate their contributions in order to ensure a coherent and balanced final outcome. Graduates can find immediate employment and to take on progressively more complex skills and responsibilities in the various operational sectors related to the activities conducted by design studios, public services and building contractors. The Bachelor diploma has Federal recognition.
