The SUPSI Bachelor's degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence focuses on the ability to implement data science and artificial intelligence algorithmsand make them operational within companies and institutions. 
 
Students also learn how to apply machine learning techniques to analyse large amounts of data (Big Data) and make decision-making processes more closely linked to the information contained within the data.

Provides the skills to work in the context of the digital healthcare industry, including advanced biomedical systems for patient monitoring, prosthetics and pharmaceutical technologies.
 
Topics: signal analysis of biomedical sensors; collection, processing and management of anatomical and physiological data; advanced diagnostics and prognostics; risk analysis and safety assessment; application of computational modelling; machine learning and statistical analysis in biomedical applications.

  • Theory and practice

    In addition to theoretical lectures in blended mode (online and classroom), the Study programme includes numerous exercises and practical activities to develop the computational and implementation component, as well as data challenges and hackathons to stimulate problem-solving skills. 

  • Transversal competences

    A great deal of attention is paid to transversal skills, with in-depth studies dedicated to communication, ethics and project management, to foster the training of flexible profiles capable of working in multidisciplinary teams. 

  • Language

    The Courses are given in English, with the possibility of taking some courses in Italian if they are already part of the Department's Study programme.

 
The Bachelor's degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence provides for 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
 
ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) is the European system for the recognition, transfer and accumulation of educational credits. One ECTS credit corresponds to workload of approximately 30 hours. One academic year usually corresponds to 60 ECTS credits (1800 working hours).
The course involves weekly attendance with four days in the classroom and one day remotely.
The course lasts for 3 years.

Registration for the academic year 2024-2025 are opened.

The application for admission is submitted exclusively by following the online procedure available on the SUPSI Student Portal.
Registration is possible if you meet one of the following requirements:
  • vocational baccalaureate and Federal VET Diploma in a profession related to the chosen study programme. Foreign diplomas from institutions equivalent to the vocational baccalaureate in a profession related to the chosen study programme are recognised;
  • vocational baccalaureate and Federal VET Diploma in a profession related to the chosen study programme. Foreign diplomas from institutions equivalent to the vocational baccalaureate in a profession related to the chosen study programme are recognised
  • federally recognised baccalaureate or foreign baccalaureate. Enrolment is permitted by choosing the Assisted Practice Year (APA#) access mode during the online application process. The secretariat will contact the candidate(s) for further details on how the practice will be conducted;
  • ST technician or degree from another specialised high school related to the study programme;
  • age over 25 with proven training and significant experience in the field of university subjects (admission on dossier).
     
A minimum English level of B1 is desirable; before the start of the first semester, it is possible to take a dedicated intensive language course.
 
*Assisted Practice Year (APA)
If you have a high school diploma (federal/foreign recognised) or a vocational school diploma (federal/foreign recognised) with a non-technical focus, access to the Bachelor's degree course in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence is permitted after completion of a practical internship (Assisted Practical Year).
 
For the Bachelor's degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the supervised practicum year can be completed as follows:
  • 6 months theoretical training at the Department of Innovative Technologies + 6 months practical training at the laboratories of the Department of Innovative Technologies;
  • 6 months of theoretical training at the Department of Innovative Technologies + 6 months of practical training at a company in a sector related to the chosen degree course. The student is responsible for finding a company;
  • 12-month internship in a company performing tasks related to the chosen study programme. The company search is the student’s responsibility.

To apply for admission, you must:
  • pay the administrative fee of CHF 200 (this amount is neither refundable nor deductible from the six-monthly fee);
  • provide a certificate of attendance from your school of origin. 

 
Once the procedure has been completed, the student receives an automatic confirmation of successful application. 

Outcome of the application

All applications for admission are assessed by SUPSI. 
 
In the event of a positive response, the student receives an e-mail with instructions on how to confirm the application. 
 
In the event of non-admission, the applicant will be contacted individually by the DTI Secretariat. 

Confirmation of entry
Students wishing to proceed with confirmation of enrolment are required to print, sign and send the following documents in original to SUPSI Management:
  • ASUP;
  • confirmation of entry;
  • diploma (if available).

To submit an application for admission through the SUPSI Student Portal, you must have a Switch edu-ID account. 

Access to the Switch edu-ID system

To submit your application for admission, you must have a Switch edu-ID account. If you already have one you can log into the SUPSI Student Portal with your credentials, otherwise follow the procedure described below.

Create your Switch edu-ID account (if you do not already have one)

To create the account you need to enter:
  • first and last name;
  • address;
  • email (do not use email addresses granted by other schools and active for a limited time);
  • password.

 
After agreeing to the terms and conditions, a user account is created and a link sent to the given email address.

To activate the account, you must click on the link in the email and log in to Switch edu-ID for the first time. Once the account is active, you will be able to access the SUPSI Student Portal to submit your application for admission.

Application fee
A fee of CHF 200 is required with the submission of the application for admission. The fee is not refundable or deductible from the semester fee.

After May 31, it is possible to enroll subject to available places and by paying a fee of CHF 300.-. SUPSI reserves the right to close enrollment if the maximum number of scheduled available places is reached.
 
Administrative and logistical costs

CHF 150 .– per semester.
