Objectives

This course provides a professional qualification for teaching music to children aged approximately 4-12 years old
Graduates may progress to a Master’s course provided they complete a “bridging” programme. The teaching qualification required in order to teach in public schools varies from Canton to Canton.


Skills

Students possess broad-ranging knowledge and proficiency in the field of general musical education.
They can give nursery and elementary school children a musical education, managing to awaken sensitivity to the cultural values of music, to create an active relationship with music and allow children and young people to become critical listeners. They are able to recognise and to encourage special musical talent. They are aware of their communicative style during lessons and in group music activities, such as choirs, instrumental ensembles, free improvisation and rhythm.

Admission requirements

Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Music and Movement is subject to:
high school or vocational school leaving examination, diploma from another general second level high school, recognised general education certification, or they must pass an aptitude test or an examination of exceptional musical talent.

Career prospects

Graduates can teach music to children aged between 4 and 12 years old, mainly in music schools. In fact, traditional courses like "Musical Initiation", "Rhythm", "Elementary Music Course", Elementary Musical Education" etc. are a fundamental component of the programmes offered by Swiss music schools..
On the other hand, the teaching qualification required in order to teach in public schools varies from Canton to Canton.
