Education and training I received the diploma in Computer Science at ETH Zürich in 1999. During my studies, I focused my interests on advanced programming techniques, software architectures, and digital signal processing. In 2008 I decided to apply to the EPFL doctoral school and, as a consequence, I started working on my Ph. D. thesis, with Ph. D. degree received during the second quarter of 2012.

Work experience After having completed my studies, I worked in the audio-processing and banking sectors of the software industry for a couple of years. At the end of 2001 I began working at SUPSI, initially as a researcher, then also as a lecturer. As a project manager and software architect for many applied-research projects, I had the possibility to strengthen my computer-science skills, in particular, in audio-video processing, high-performance computing and scientific simulation.
