Wearable Technologies

Wearable technology is becoming nowadays part of our life. If not yet ready for being systematically applied in the health domain, it is widely adopted for fitness and it is also moving its first steps in the fashion domain.

Moreover, the small form factor and the ability to communicate in a network make the wearable sensors intrinsically part of an Internet of Things. At the ISIN, we have a broad background in wireless communication, wireless sensors networking and wearable sensor networking. In specific, we address the research on wearable sensors networks practically at every layer:

  • new wearable sensors
  • energy efficient MAC and routing protocols
  • data communication protocols
  • (mobile)health applications

We built up our knowledge by covering the role of PI or co-Investigator on several grant funded by the European Frameworks (FP5, FP6, FP7), the European Space Agency, the Swiss National Foundation, the Swiss Commission for the Technology and Innovation and private foundations.
