History and mission


The Institute for Information Systems and Networking was officially established in December 2007, after one year it was constituted as a merger of previously existing units within the SUPSI Department of Innovative Technologies. The Institute merged the resources and competences on information systems, software engineering, networking, operating systems and security.

Since it was established, the institute has considerably grown in terms of people, projects and applied research activity reaching in 2011 about 40 employees and 3 Mio CHF in applied research projects.


The Institute mission is to develop and maintain ICT-related competencies in order to support
• bachelor and master courses
• continuous education courses
• the knowledge transfer toward local companies in the frame of applied research projects
• doctoral projects in collaboration with national and international universities
