It conducts applied research at national and international level in the field of design and management of production systems with a focus on innovation in manufacturing systems, production processes, products and business models.

The Institute's research topics focus on intelligent automation, sustainable manufacturing and the circular economy, human-centred production systems, industrial technologies and systems for additive manufacturing and laser processing, robotic and modular production systems.

The Institute contributes to the Department's Bachelor's and Master's courses, in particular the Bachelor's degree in Management Engineering and several courses within the Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Data Science.

To support human capital innovation in local industries, several Continuing Education courses in Industrial Production are also offered.
