As the know-how from the team widely ranges from biomaterial science to formulation technology, from computational studies to quality assurance, the Laboratory is currently running various research projects, including CTI, SNSF, EuroStars and privately sponsored research mandates too.

Particularly, the latter experience in applied research has indeed been devoted to combine materials science and advanced technologies, addressing special medical and pharmaceutical applications needs, taking care of required performances, also within the strict boundaries of normative requirements.

This Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI supports industrial R&D project aiming at defining experimental and modeling frameworks to understand and control the caking phenomena occurring during some specific milling processes of active substances (May 2016 – April 2018).

This translational research project, supported by Fondazione Leonardo aims at developing and proving feasibility of a new concept of drug eluting sutures, being resorbable, multilayer and multiphasic. The project encompasses both smart device design and experimental proof of concept of this next generation of drug releasing sutures (July 2014 – December 2016).

Thanks to its international consortium, its long track-record in translational joint research activities and the acknowledged strong industry support, this Swiss-European joint research project aims at developing and implementing safe-by-design concepts into the field of polymeric nanobiomaterials for drug delivery systems (January 2017 – December 2018).

This Commission for Technology and Innovation supported industrial R&D project aims at developing and testing innovative trauma devices decreasing the risk of treatment failure better meeting the mechano-biological requirements of the healing tissues. Thanks to consortium composition, the project foresees activities ranging from device design up to preclinical testing (April 2016 – March 2018).
