Have you been able to understand what the circles represent?
No? Let's reveal it! Read about our project!

Every year during the Christmas holidays, swissuniversities, the umbrella organization of swiss universities, assigns a task to a university of applied science and arts in Switzerland. The design and realization of a greeting card for the holidays, in paper and digital format, is required. 2021 the students of the Bachelor in Visual Communication of the third semester had the opportunity to confront this request. The project focused on a main theme, microbiology. Thanks to the new campus in Mendrisio and the valuable collaboration of the researchers, the students were able to use the interesting materials of the Institute of Microbiology of SUPSI. The theme of microbiology prompted the students to look at some materials and some foods with other eyes or with those of the latest generation Zeiss photographic microscope.

They collected some specific foods of the Christmas holidays (such as panettone, mandarins, peanuts, champagne, biscuits, cakes, ...) and photographed them with the microscope. The images were then selected, bringing out 4 main foods:

– mandarin peel
– pieces of panettone
– pieces of biscuits
– champagne bubbles in the bottle

These were then elaborated and formed the 2021 greeting cards in digital and paper format.

The circles then represent the foods listed above (mandarin peel, pieces of panettone, pieces of biscuits and bottled champagne bubbles).
