What is the degree awarded upon graduation?

Upon successful completion of the Master's degree course you will be awarded the degree "Master of Science [name of the University of Applied Sciences] in Engineering with Specialization in [name of profile]".

The degree "Master of Science in Engineering (MSc)" is protected, recognized by the Swiss authorities and internationally valid.

What is the amount of work required?

The MSE comprises 90 ECTS credits. One ECTS credit requires an average of 30 hours of work.

How long does it take to complete the course?

Full-time study takes three semesters, while part-time study for those in employment will take longer, depending on the number of hours worked.

How is admission to the course regulated?

The MSE is targeted at the top 35% of bachelor’s graduates, who will generally have achieved a Grade A or B for their bachelor’s degree. Admission on a case-by-case basis is possible, but this must be discussed with the relevant University of Applied Sciences.

What language skills do I require?

The overall MSE programme is taught on a multilingual basis.

You can take your training in your specialisation in German, English or French – depending on your profile and University of Applied Sciences. The Universities of Applied Sciences will be happy to advise you in this regard.

The theory modules are taught either in English or in the local language. Language information on the teaching language, teaching materials and exam language can be found in the module descriptions.

What is the role of an advisor?

An advisor will provide specialist support to you over the entire duration of your studies. This lecturer will define your study goals with you and advise you accordingly on how to structure your studies and select your modules.

Advisors work as lecturers and researchers in your chosen area of specialisation.

Where are the courses taught?

You can take the specialisation in your profile at the University of Applied Sciences of your choice.

You can attend the theory modules at central locations in Lausanne, Lugano and Zurich that are easily reachable using public transport. Individual modules may also be held at other locations.

Where can I find timetables and semester schedules?

Timetables and room information for the theory modules, semester schedules and examination schedules can be found on the Moodle learning platform.

What examinations have to be taken and what proofs of attainment of learning outcomes have to be achieved?

You will have to achieve a proof of attainment of learning outcomes for course elements for each semester. A final examination is held for each theory module. In your specialisation, you earn ECTS credits through project work or supplementary course elements, and also with your master’s thesis. Proof of attainment of learning outcomes is generally achieved through the assessment of your project work, your report and your presentation of this report.

How much are the fees?

The tuition fees are set by the individual Universities of Applied Sciences and can be found on their websites. Students are entitled to receive a grant if the MSE constitutes part of their initial training in Switzerland. The Universities of Applied Sciences will be happy to advise you in this regard.

How can I register?

You can register with the University of Applied Sciences of your choice that offers your desired profile. After this registration, this University of Applied Sciences will then check the student’s eligibility. If necessary, you can arrange for an admission interview to be held.

I am from abroad, can I take the MSE?

As a foreign student, you are eligible for admission if you fulfil the admission requirements and have the necessary language skills. The conditions are specified by the Universities of Applied Sciences that are participating in the MSE. You can obtain more information directly from the University of Applied Sciences of your choice. After you have registered, the University of Applied Sciences in question will clarify your eligibility.

Can I do semester abroad as an MSE student?

It is possible to do one semester abroad. In addition, you will be given organisational support if you wish to work on an international research project as part of your specialisation.

What are my career prospects?

The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) produces graduates who will become specialists and managers in industry and the public sector. They acquire the specialist skills required for careers in research and development departments, production, logistics or consultancy. They are also qualified to manage interdisciplinary projects.
