The Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence, established in 1988, is a non-profit research institute, affiliated with both the University of Lugano, and with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland.

 The research conducted by the Dalle Molle Institute focuses on automatic learning, optimal universal artificial intelligence, optimal rational agents, operative research, complexity theory, environmental computer science and support for decision making, bio-inspired systems and robotic systems.
