Sustainable Renovation of Historical Buildings

Acronimo SURHIB

Abstract Nowadays, with their success, solar technologies tend to be seen everywhere. A critical point of discussion begins when PV modules are installed on historical buildings. In this case, solar installations are connected directly with the regional planning authorities that mostly decide to practice a restrictive policy or a ?case by case? procedure. For the latter, the design of the installation becomes very important. The visual appearance of the modules and the grid formed by the modules together can influence the conclusion reached by the Commission. A set of criteria will be proposed to review projects regarding the installation of solar technology on historic building roofs, with a series of recommendations which will be further explored and analysed using technically and aesthetically objective evaluations. These proposals will be presented with the support of examples to understand the motivations, such as production or the economic aspects, which led to the installation of solar panels with obvious problems in terms of the architectural insertion.
