Financial Outputs, Risks, Efficacy, Satisfaction Index and Gate-keeping of Home Treatment in Ticino - Running innovation of acute psychiatric teams for Switzerland
Acronimo FORESIGHT
Abstract The study aims to analyze the feasibility, acceptance and cost-effectiveness of a home treatment intervention for acute mental illness implemented since 2016 in the psychiatric hospital of the canton of Ticino. Three methodological approaches will be combined. a) Patients in home treatment (intervention group) will be compared to patients in residential treatment (control group) in terms of several indicators such as, for instance, the length of the intervention in days (treatment phase) and the symptoms and relapses during the following two years (follow-up phase). b) The complex interactions between the patients, specialist teams and families will be subject to a qualitative analysis. c) The direct and indirect costs (sick days) of the intervention group and the control group will be examined. The study will improve understanding of the potential, in clinical and financial terms, of home treatment for acute mental illness. It will provide indications as to the conditions necessary for the treatment to be successful, particularly in terms of organization, training of specialist teams, integration of home treatment within the healthcare system, and patient profiles.
