DomoML, a device integration framework
Acronimo DomoML
Abstract In the context of Human Home Interaction, a typical problem is to find a solution that enable household appliances to interact each other and exchange information. The communication is usually made easier for devices built by the same constructor. In the DomoML project the idea is to make a universal language to unify the needs and understanding of the domestic world. DomoML is a framework that consists of a suite of XML based languages aiming to describe and interconnect heterogeneous devices (Domotics Modeling Language). The suite is composed by three parts which cover environmental elements such as household appliances, walls, ceiling and doors (DomoML-env), their functions (DomoML-fun) and the communication among them (DomoML-com). A first proto-type platform was developed in 2004. The DomoML-env part was later extended with the formalization of an OWL ontology used to describe the different devices.
