Abstract The main objective of the project was the creation of the radon cadastre and database and the radon distribution maps. The aim was achieved by series activities: acquaintance with foreign experiences related to the problems of the radon pollution in similar urban areas; identification of the areas with the increased «sensitivity» to radon, exuding from the bowels of the Earth (geologically active zones, fractured soils with high permeability and etc.); measuring of the indoor radon and short-lived radon semi-decay products levels in the basements and on the first floors; implementation of the analyses of relationships between dangerous indoor radon levels and structural and lithological features of the geological environment of different regions of Azerbaijan; estimation of influence doses of radon and short-lived semi-decay products of radon on the health of the population living in the studied area in accordance with the medical data and etc.
