Electro Impedence Tomography - part 2: miniaturization

Abstract The goal of this (second phase) project is the development of a second generation (miniaturized) prototype for the Electro-Impedence Tomography (EIT). Through the measure of the electrical impedence between a series of electrodes placed around the patient?s thorax. It is therefore possible to reconstruct the image of the thorax section. In contrast of the massive X-ray or MRI based devices, EIT has much less negative effects on the body; it is a small portable device, well suited for use in ambulance, ER departments and in general on the field. EIT allows the doctors to take quick decisions (within minutes) on the patient?s ventilation and on the air volume that should be applied. The project final result is a miniaturized (10x5x3 cm) that can be produced in small quantities for extended lab and filed (clinical) tests.
