Abstract This research Project “Urban regimes and citizenship: a case study for an innovative approach”, targeting the research field “Urban development”, is a innovative research effort to understand the main challenges of metropolitan governance and urban management in Brazilian cities and to set up an innovative and targeted approach of citizenship education. We propose a theoretical and methodological framework to understand the characteristics of the dominant coalitions located in the city of Rio de Janeiro and the impact of their decisions on urban policies.
