The city of Fès as a locus to investigate migration processes on the move

Acronimo SM15

Abstract -the project “The city of Fès as a locus to investigate migration processes on the move” delves into the crucial fulcrum of the city (Fès) as place mainly involved in migration processes. To sum up, the project aims then at: • starting a new perspective concentrating on points where the flow takes a shape and is significant (the city) rather than concentrating, as usual, on the point of arrival and/or departure; • framing the role of the city in a twofold sense, focusing on city’s government and its specific decision making (in connection/decentralization with national/regional one) in managing migration processes as well as conceiving the city as primary laboratory of integration and organization of practices of participation; • mapping how practices of formal/informal participation and social commitments, including policy of control of migrants, are shaped in Fès, by concentrating on urban citizenship, in particular in understanding how processes of inclusion/exclusion, social experiments, spontaneous and/or organized social and political forms of aggregation take place and how they can induce a form, although informal and temporary, of participation.
