Esperienze professionali Due anni di esperienza post-laurea nel centro di calcolo di un grande gruppo assicurativo italiano, prima del dottorato. Due anni di consulenza per SGS-Thomson a Milano durante il periodo del dottorato. Nel 1997 viene assunto come post-dottorato presso l'Istituto Dalle Molle di Studi sull'Intelligenza Artificiale (IDSIA). Nel 2001 diventa ricercatore con contratto a tempo indeterminato. Nel 2009 viene nominato Professore SUPSI e nel 2019 Direttore Scientifico IDSIA. Ha fondato e dirige un gruppo di 30 ricercatori full time nel settore del machine learning probabilistico.
Competenze Data mining, sistemi basati sulla conoscenza, ragionamento incerto, fondamenti teorici e applicazioni della probabilità, in particolare probabilità imprecisa, modelli grafico-probabilistici; applicazioni ambientali, di difesa, mediche, ingegneristiche, business.
Riconoscimenti È autore di 140 articoli internazionali peer-reviewed. È stato Presidente della Società Internazionale di Probabilità Imprecisa. È Senior Area Editor di International Journal of Approximate Reasoning. Ha acquisito oltre 12 milioni di franchi di finanziamenti competitivi per la ricerca.
