This sum is reduced to CHF 800 for students who benefit from the application of the ASUP Intercantonal Agreement for Vocational Universities (Swiss nationality or civil and fiscal domicile in Switzerland or in Liechtenstein).   • A profession in contact with the future.

    Starting from the consideration that school is a place of cultural and social development, in addition to a strongly-based didactic and pedagogical education, membership to the teaching profession in the pre-primary school sector also entails viewing the future in an open and interested manner, since teachers are in constant contact with the new generations, and with the challenges and demands related to their development. The course therefore focuses strongly on the interaction between theory and practice, with many periodic professional practice assignments to be conducted in the selected scholastic sector and designed in close synergy with the theoretical, application and experiential modules of the teaching programme. The course, 3 years full time duration, trains students to teach in the pre-primary education sector, therefore children aged between 3 and 5. The main function of the teacher of this age group is to stimulate and mediate the confrontation between children in discovering and understanding the internal and external reality by means of different working modalities and starting from sensible situations, in tune with the needs and the affective and cognitive development of the children.


The course focuses on the interaction between professional practice and theoretical-application modules designed to build up a sound education based on the acquisition of an increasingly strong command of a fundamental set of subject, didactic and educational tools. In accordance with the principles of lifelong learning, and in response to the continuously changing socio-economic and cultural circumstances, these tools will, of course, undergo constant and career-long improvement and revision.


The professional role of the teacher in compulsory education institutions requires a variety of wide-ranging skills, so a teacher’s expertise must cover many fields: from socio-relational skills fostering the establishment of a profitable relationship with pupils in order to facilitate the learning process, to professional skills associated with the link between knowledge and the didactic transfer of this knowledge.

Admission requirements

For admission to the program, before the start of the courses,  applicants must have one of the following qualifications:

  1. high school leaving examination awarded in accordance with Federal legislation, obtained before the start of the degree course;
  2. leaving examination awarded by the Scuola Cantonale di Commercio
  3. leaving examination with:

    - "Attestato cross passerella Scuole universitarie" for students with Federal vocational school leaving examination;

    -  complementary examination certificate ("Attestato corso passerella SUPSI-DFA") for students with a Cantonal high school leaving examination in the Arts (maturità artistica) or with a Federal or Cantonal vocational school leaving examination

  4. high school leaving examination awarded outside Switzerland. For the recognition of foreign secondary school qualifications, the Admission Commission refers to the CRUS recommendations related to the evaluation of non-Swiss secondary school diplomas.

Applicants who fulfill the requirements, and whose qualifications have not been awarded in Italian, are admitted subject to verification of their fluency in Italian. The level required corresponds to level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).

Applicants who fulfill the requirements specified in point 4 are admitted, subject to verification of their knowledge of the history and geography of Switzerland.

Besides proving the fulfillment of the admission requirements applicants must get through the admission procedures as specified in the application procedure directives.
