Solidarity from the SUPSI academic community
10 March 2022
SUPSI is following with concern and attention the development of events in Ukraine, which have a profound effect on its own academic community.

SUPSI expresses its full solidarity with the Ukrainian scientific, university and student communities in the tragic circumstances in which this nation finds itself today and shares the position of swissuniversities, which condemns the Russian military intervention in the strongest possible terms. The Swiss Rectors’ Conference of Higher Education Institutions also calls on European governments to take immediate action to protect the lives and careers of academics, students, researchers and civil society activists, and indeed the entire population of Ukraine.

SUPSI regards integrity, collaboration and responsibility as the fundamental guiding values that inspire it as a university community, promoting the recognition and respect of individual rights and equal opportunities. The developments in the war will have serious consequences for Ukrainian and Russian universities. In accordance with the statement by swissuniversities, SUPSI is therefore committed to supporting students, lecturers and researchers at Ukrainian and Russian universities who are suffering from the current situation and who are committed, as far as possible, to the European system of values and law. In particular, SUPSI belongs to the Scholars at Risk network, an international programme that takes in students and other members of the academic community who suffer serious threats to their lives, their freedom and their right to study.

Through its Counselling and psychological support service, SUPSI is at the disposal of all students and staff who are experiencing situations of distress due to the current conflict and who need particular support at this time of great uncertainty and disorientation.
