Researcher (w/m) in Social sciences at Centre of Competence on Ageing

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) offers a position of Researcher in Social sciences at the Centre of Competence on Ageing (CCA) of the Department of Business Economics, Health and Social Care (DEASS), located in Manno. This position is part of the new longitudinal study SWISS100. The research aims at investigating centenarians' living conditions and characteristics across Switzerland, with a specific focus on vulnerability and resilience, by combining medical, biological, psychiatric, psychological and sociological perspectives. The project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), represents a collaboration between the University of Lausanne, the University of Geneva, the university hospitals CHUV and HUG, the University of Zurich and SUPSI. Part – full time (80%-100%) position, expected start date 01.12.2019 or date to be agreed.


  • Participate in data collection (development of the study procedures and materials, conducting standardized interviews with centenarians and reference persons, preparation of databases).
  • Support the organization of the interdisciplinary project and exchange with colleagues from other institutions and local stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the scientific output of the study (statistical analysis, presentations at national and international conferences, scientific publications).
  • Advance his/her scientific development in the area of research on the oldest old (in particular on sociological issues).
  • Collaborate in the activities of the CCA and contribute positively to the climate of the Centre.


  • Master in social sciences. A PhD in social sciences will be a preferential qualification.
  • Research experience and strong interest in the area of aging.
  • Excellent skills in quantitative research and mastery of software for statistical data analysis (SPSS, STATA, R, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Italian, English language and at least one other national language.
  • Good scientific communication skills (oral and written).
  • Very good organizational and inter-personal skills.
