Research Assistant (w/m) in Laser based Manufacturing Processes

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), active in the fields of natural and built environment, economics, technological innovation, applied art, social work and healthcare, learning and education, at the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI) in Manno, in particular the Institute of Systems and Technologies for Sustainable Production (ISTePS), has opened a full time (100%) position for a Research Assistant in Laser based Manufacturing Processes.


Metal materials process engineering, analysis and control, including:

  • Metal materials process design and optimization.
  • Inspection systems.
  • Laser assisted processing technologies.

Knowledgeable in the areas of:

  • Metallurgy, fitness for service and failure analysis.
  • Nondestructive testing.


  • Master in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or related field.
  • Experience in the field of Additive Manufacturing and Laser based technologies constitute a preferential condition.
  • Excellent knowledge of software tools for mechanical modelling (CAD).
  • Good knowledge of programming languages, e.g. C/C++, Nastran, LabVIEW, Matlab, MeshLab, HDevelop, Point Cloud Libraries.
  • Good social skills.
  • Ability to work in heterogeneous groups and to solve problems independently.
  • Good organizational skills and problem solving mindset.
  • Consolidated knowledge of spoken and written English and of one Swiss national language, knowledge of at least one further Swiss national language constitutes a preferential condition.
  • Self-motivated, responsible and ambitious individual that is able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Curriculum vitae with publications list (if any) and possibly link to the Master thesis.
  • List of exams and grades obtained during the Master of Science (and eventually during the Bachelor).
  • Statement of research.

  • Copy of scientific papers published in International Journals or in Proceedings of International Conferences, if any.
