Researcher with Ph.D. in the area of Combinatorial Optimization and Machine Learning

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) has opened at the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI) located in the new USI-SUPSI Campus in Lugano-Viganello, in particular at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA), a full time (100%) position for a Researcher with Ph.D. in the area of Combinatorial Optimization and Machine Learning. Contract start date 1st June 2021 or date to be agreed.
Tasks
- Research activities in design and implementation of algorithms for combinatorial optimization and machine learning algorithms and their interaction.
- Management and development of research projects in the aforementioned field.
- Optionally, teaching in algorithms and optimization related courses.
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in electronics, informatics or related fields.
- Publications in top-level international journals and conferences.
- Experience with writing research proposals.
- Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Experience in the design and implementation of algorithms for combinatorial optimization based on decomposition techniques.
- Experience in the design and implementation of machine learning models and data-driven optimization algorithms.
- Theoretical background in; operations research, combinatorial optimization (exact and heuristic methods), machine learning, control theory.
- Familiarity with development of algorithms in C, C++ and Python.
- Familiarity with frameworks and libraries for combinatorial optimization (AMPL, Pyomo, Gurobi, Cplex, SCIP).
