Researcher in measurements and vision techniques and systems

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) has opened a position at the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI), located in the new USI-SUPSI Campus in Lugano-Viganello (Campus Est), in particular at the Institute of Systems and Technologies for Sustainable Production (ISTePS), a full time (100%) position for Researcher in measurements and vision techniques and systems. Contract start date on September 2022 or date to be determined.


Development and integration of measurement systems for:

  • Monitoring and control of laser based production processes for both material deposition and removal on metal components
  • Inspection and quality control of components for sectors such as aerospace, automotive and energy

Skill development in the areas of:

  • Digital signal processing, image processing e data fusion.
  • Non destructive testing evaluation.
  • Monitoring and control of production processes in real time.
  • Artificial intelligence techniques applied to laser based additive manufacturing processes.


  • Master in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • PhD in a related field constitutes a preferential condition.
  • Experience in measurement techniques (especially non-contact 2D and 3D optical and thermal measurements).
  • Experience in non-destructive testing techniques.
  • Experience in the use of instrumentation such as: accelerometers, strain gauges, visible/infrared/hyperspectral cameras, structured light systems, time-of-flight systems, depth from focus and confocal microscopes.
  • Experience in Digital Signal Processing and Data Fusion.
  • Good knowledge of programming languages, such as C/C++/C#, R, Python, Matlab, LabView.
  • Good knowledge of software and libraries for image, point cloud and mesh processing such as: OpenCV, Point Cloud Library, TensorFlow, Halcon, MeshLab, Rhino.
  • Experience in laser manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Experience with control models is preferred.
  • Experience in writing and managing activities for European and national projects is preferred.
  • Consolidated knowledge of spoken and written English and of at least two Swiss national languages is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • The ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Swiss citizenship or at least the B Permit constitute preferential condition.
