Joining the three other SUPSI departments (Department of Innovative Technologies, Department of Education and Learning, Department of Environment Construction and Design), this new department is typified by its innovative character, resulting from the collaboration between diverse and complementary areas of competence: economic-business, health and social care.

From 2007 the Akademie Physiotherapie Thim van der Laan in Landquart – which had trained physiotherapists for many years, awarding Swiss Red Cross qualifications and Bachelor/Master degrees governed by Dutch law – is affiliated with the Department, making it possible to conduct SUPSI Bachelor programmes in physiotherapy in the two centres: Manno and Chur.
