Artificial Intelligence to fight COVID
04 June 2021
Dario Piga, Senior Researcher at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI), and his research group contributed to the publication of a study in the prestigious Journal of Medical Internet Research.

The team headed by Dario Piga, including researcher Loris Roveda and MSE students Marco Maccarini and Filippo Pura, worked on the engineering part of a study on the use of artificial intelligence to tackle Covid.

The research, conducted together with an interdisciplinary team of Italian and Swiss doctors and engineers, led to the development of a system capable of predicting the death risk of patients with Covid-19 pneumonia using Machine Learning.

The use of this technique resulted in the creation of a web application, now available to the entire medical-scientific community, to support doctors in treating patients according to the severity and characteristics of their clinical situation.

The results of this study were reported in an article published by rainews.it on 2 June 2021: read the article (in Italian only).
