DESyMED
Ophthalmologic medical system for Dry Eye Syndrome treatment.
Image

The Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) is characterized by the damage of the eye surface, caused by a decrease of production and/or an increase of the evaporation of the lacrimal components. 10-20% of the worldwide population suffer from DES but existing treatment solutions do not offer a personalized approach and need continuous assistance in ophthalmologic ambulatories.

The project aims at developing a complete DES system to improve and personalize the treatment. The new device will incorporate particular actuators and micro-sensors to collect wireless eye health status information. A sanitizing box will be developed for eyewear conservation. Collected information will be processed and analyzed. A personalized algorithm will adjust therapy and control adherence to therapy.

The result will be an innovative DES medical system formed by a lightweight good-looking wearable medical device and by a mobile application for personalized treatment. It will be used directly by the patient, supported by the mobile application.
