The HELIDEM project (Helvetia-Italy Digital Elevation Model) intend to create a digital model of unified heights and properly georeferenced, validating integrating all sources of information available into a single model. The intervention area of HELIDEM is the subalpine and Alpine region between Italy (Piedmont and Lombardy) and Switzerland (canton Ticino and Graubünden). The project is funded by the INTERREG Italy-Switzerland 2007 - 2013 program and co-financed by the European Union.

HELIDEM concentrates his attention on the topics of altimetry and digital terrain models. The systems for managing geographic information are information systems for collecting, storing, managing and sharing environmental and territorial data, related to the spatial and temporal coordinates of the points to which the data relate. These points are located on the Earth's surface, generally referred as "land" or in its immediate vicinity, in this case we speak generally about surface.

If follows that, the location of a point can be identified with two planimetric coordinates, when you know that the point lies on the ground and when some of coordinated height of the land itself is know. This is the standard of Gis (Geographic Information System), with their contents of base maps, Digital Terrain Models (DTM), or Digital Elevation Model (DEM), if you have additional information about vectors that describe the morphology of the land such as breaking lines or terrain feature lines. The reconstruction of the surface with natural and artificial parts overlapping it is Digital Surface Model (DSM). Traditional digital models were added in recent years, dense digiral models (DDTM, DDSM), high and ultra-high resolution. Elevation data are therefore an integral part and base geographic information systems (GIS) and a fundamental spatial data required by European directive INSPIRE (INfrastructure for SPatial InfoRmation in Europe).

Integration of the "three-dimensional - transnational - multi resolution" data, requires the availability of appropriate methods and parameters for datum transformation, at least conform with the accuracy of digital terrain models. If the accuracy of the data is high (on the order of tens of centimeters), the accuracy required for planimetric transformation is also high. The optimal processing type to be taken will be aimed at HELIDEM. The obtainable precision through the transformation will be of the order of magnitude of local network of precision classification. The project will allow to create a DTM (for the height coordinate dimensions will be considered orthometric) integrated, unified and multi resolution, which represents the crucial bit for the multiple environmental and territorial applications.


ENORARIS is a project funded by the European community under the seventh framework programe (FP7) which aims to develop a decision support system (ENORARIS Service Platform and Components) for the management of irrigation for farms and/or bodies of water resource management. This system, which relies on competences on meteorological prediction models, data analysis systems, satellite weather, smart sensors and GIS technologies made available by partners, will help to minimize waste and conserve the water resource and to optimize yields and earnings. This topic of the optimization of the use of water resources is topicality: in fact in the future with the performance of the new European directive on water this resource must have a price, a factor that greatly affect the agriculture market which is currently the largest consumer of water in the world.
