Natural Hazards
We the increase of the degree of interconnection of habitats, economic growth and the consequent development of the production and anthropogenic system, always a greater number of goods and people are exposed to natural or synthetic hazards: this fact leads to an increasing focus on the analysis of the properties to be protected and the resources to be dedicated for this protection.


It was thus proposed a change of philosophy: to “defend itself from danger” to “become aware of the risk.”

Often, the designer, albeit with a vast technical knowledge, lack of full awareness of the complexity of environmental scenarios in which it will operate and in which the works will be provided for you to locate. Similarly increasingly economist is facing disciplinary issues and analyze complex systems. The course is therefore the objective of providing appropriate methodological tools to address the issue of risk assessment by presenting formal methodologies and proposing practical appropriate examples.

In the last years natural disasters have occurred with unprecedented violence and with increasing frequency. The damage recorded were higher than those recorded in the past, as a result of increasing land use. In the global scope, the future challenge that the scientific world in called to face is therefore to be able to ensure the safety of the population effectively and efficiently, respecting precise budget constraints.

In this context is crucial integrated management, which considers the cycle of risk from initial precautionary measures until the intervention measures and recovery, through careful planning and implementing of measurers of organization of defenses. A culture of modern risk is, however, a necessary condition to ensure success: no longer enough to consider natural hazards separately and put everything on the control, it becomes necessary analysis, assessment and management of hazards considered as part of an overall system.

The Sector Risk management thus contributes to research and development of services in relation to natural hazards. In particular, the sector working on interdisciplinary projects the have as their purpose optimal risk reduction and contributes to the improvement of method and tools for integrated risk management as a basis for sustainable development.

Are dealt with issues relating to the process analysis, hazard assessment, vulnerability of the technical, ecological, economic and political risk assessment, the integrated risk management as well as measures of prevention and protection.

It also promoted and favored an interdisciplinary activity includes activities, teaching and training courses in the field of natural hazards.
