Competence Centre for Labour, Welfare and Social Research

The Competence Centre for Labour, Welfare and Social Research (CLWS) conducts research in the area of social sciences with a multidisciplinary approach and a socio-economic and socio-educational perspective. It has a strong bond with local institutions and is actively committed to training.

The Centre's research activities are divided into four interdependent thematic areas that focus on the nature and organisation of work, modes of welfare production and processes of social inclusion and exclusion.

Studies the nature, quality and organisation of work, and employment and labour integration policies in the light of the changes taking place in society.

This thematic area analyses the evolution of social security models, how they respond to social needs and the impact they have on individual well-being.

Migration, forms of belonging and citizenship

Studies the transformations induced by migration phenomena, globalisation processes and digitalisation, analysing the redefinition of public spaces and citizenship.

Focuses on the topic of social participation and analyses the most appropriate and effective socio-educational intervention tools.

Migration Documentation and Research Center

Through the Migration Documentation and Research Center, CLWS responds to a request from cantonal and federal authorities by analyzing the relationship between migration policies, integrative policies and the living conditions of the foreign population in Switzerland.

The Centre actively participates in the realisation of numerous training offers in Undergraduate and Graduate Studies and Continuing Education by transferring scientific knowledge from research projects into the teaching content offered by the Department of Business Economics, Health and Social Care.
  • Undergraduate and Graduate Studies

    Employees of the Competence Centre for Labour, Welfare and Social Research are directly involved in several modules of the Bachelor of Science in Social Work. The Centre also actively collaborates in the Master of Arts en Travail social, conceived by HES-SO in collaboration with SUPSI, offering a theoretical module in Lausanne, entitled "Welfare et transformations du monde du travail", and a research internship at the Department of Business Economics, Health and Social Care in Manno.

  • Continuing education

    The CLWS actively participates in the construction and realisation of individual modules or diplomas and certificates, both at SUPSI and at other SUPs. These include, for example, the CAS de Spécialiste en insertion professionnelle (CAS SIP), the DAS Welfare Community, the CAS Child and Adolescent Protection and the CAS in Professional Insertion.

The Center currently collaborates with numerous research institutes and universities in Switzerland and abroad.
