Upon completion of the Master's programme, the student will be able to:
  • Apply the principles of inter-professional collaboration at every level (from patient care to management level)
  • Using research results in different fields to find innovative solutions to complex problems, including the challenge of health system sustainability and the promotion of necessary process and organisational innovations
  • Participate in research projects
  • Adopt project management and process improvement methods to increase the quality and safety of care and enhance patient and staff satisfaction
  • Applying transformational leadership for the empowerment of patients and family members and colleagues, enriching their full potential
  • Highlight the nursing contribution in determining the success and performance of an organisation as a whole

In order to enable the acquisition of the defined competences, the programme is characterised by a strongly clinical orientation and aims at the development and deepening of competences in clinical practice according to the 7 roles of the CanMeds model, a framework model that identifies the competences needed to respond to the care needs of the population.
An experienced nurse, communicator, health advocate, team member, learner and teacher, manager and leader, the professional will adopt in practice the roles that are important in caring for patients and their relatives or caregivers. For the nurse(s), in their specialised field, being a caregiver is the central role.
Specifically, the SUPSI Master of Science in Nursing prepares for the profession of Clinical Nurse Practitioner at MSc level and for that of Nursing Director at MSc level.

Graduates of the Master's Degree in Nursing can take on the following roles:
  • Clinical expert (Advanced Practice Nurse - APN)
  • APN clinical expert for a specific homogeneous group of patients
  • Clinical specialist
  • Care Manager
  • Nursing director

The Master's degree provides access to continuing education courses in the health area at national, international, SUP or university level. SUPSI offers a number of continuing education courses in multiple areas of healthcare including:
  • General clinic
  • Palliative care
  • Healthcare management
  • Gerontology and geriatrics 
  • Family and community nursing 
  • Oncology
  • Maternal health and paediatrics
  • Mental health and psychiatry 
It is also possible to continue the university course by obtaining a PhD (Doctorate) at national and international level.

At the end of the Master's programme, the students who attended the first edition had a career development by taking on new roles in their organisations or by consolidating the position/role they held. Some graduates began collaborating with SUPSI on teaching activities in both basic and continuing education.
During the Master's course and upon completion, students were encouraged to actively participate in scientific conferences and congresses, presenting numerous papers through posters and oral discussions. Another way of disseminating the results of work conducted during the Master's course or thesis work was the publication of articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

    The training promotes and facilitates inter-professional collaboration, promotes the transfer of scientific knowledge into practice, values and promotes the sharing of students' experiences, has national and international orientation

  • Main Themes

    The training is structured following three main themes: advanced clinical practice, applied research, and organizational and leadership aspects

  • Advanced clinical practice

    As far as advanced practice is concerned, teaching covers the following areas: acute and chronic care, preventive care, rehabilitative care, health promotion activities

  • Pedagogical and didactic choices

    The development of the training course is based on the following pedagogical and didactic choices: competence-based approach, interdisciplinarity and interprofessionalism, reflexive practitioner and the reflexive dimension of professional practices, pedagogy for adults

  • Teaching and training practices

    The training involves various teaching practices including: flipped classroom, case studies and simulations. Various communication technologies are used to support 'teaching and learning to activate diversified forms of interaction

Course FB Teachers

The Master's degree allows for the acquisition of 90 ECTS in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). One ECTS credit corresponds to approximately 30 hours of study (lectures, individual and group projects, assisted and individual study).
The Master is offered on a part-time basis, with attendance of one week per month over two and a half years (5 semesters). At the end of the training you acquire 90 ECTS credits

The Master in Nursing has a limited number of places available. In the event of applications for more than 20 candidates, a ranking will be established according to specific criteria defined by the Master's Degree Course Management.
The application for admission is submitted exclusively by following the online procedure available on the Student Portal.
 
After a few days, once the application has been assessed, an e-mail communication will follow containing the invitation for an oral interview for orientation, in-depth examination and assessment. On the basis of the results of the oral interview and the specific criteria defined by the Management, a ranking will be established. Admitted candidates will receive the information by e-mail.

The following are admitted to the Master of Science in Nursing: candidates with a contract of employment with clinical practice (at least 50 per cent), at least two years' recent professional experience, and in possession of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

The application for admission must be submitted by the deadline (see overview).
Applications after the deadline are possible, only if places are available, by paying a fee of CHF 300.
SUPSI reserves the right to close applications if the maximum number of scheduled places available is reached.

Fee
The fee is CHF 1600 per semester, respectively CHF 800 for students benefiting from the application of the Intercantonal Agreement on Universities of Applied Sciences and Arts (Swiss nationality or tax domicile in Switzerland or Liechtenstein). Specific agreements apply for students resident in Campione d’Italia.
Application fee
A fee of CHF 160 must be paid online when applying for admission. This fee is neither refundable nor deductible from the semester fee
Administrative and logistical costs
A fee of CHF 200 is required to be paid online when applying for admission. The fee is not refundable or deductible from the semester fee. After the application deadline, it is possible to register subject to available places and by paying a fee of CHF 300.

Open days/evenings are held between January and March each year, during which, for example, the content of the course, professional outlets and the admission procedure are presented. It is also possible to visit the campus and meet directly with students and lecturers.

SUPSI qualifications are valid both in Switzerland and worldwide. In regulated professions, SUPSI qualifications also qualify for the profession in Switzerland, while in other countries it is necessary to check with the relevant body for recognition.

You can take a semester an maximum one year at another university in Switzerland or abroad through related agreements. Find more information and reference contacts on the dedicated page.

They are a contribution to the costs of teaching (school materials, charges for visits, general administrative and secretarial costs, teaching and IT support, etc.).

Following the Bologna Reform, study courses have been structured into modules and each module is allocated a number of study credits according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). One ECTS credit is equivalent to a workload of 25 to 30 hours. 60 credits represent the annual workload in the case of full-time education. A Bachelor's degree requires 180 ECTS and a Master's degree 90 to 120 ECTS.
