Certification OHSAS 18001
The Institute has recently obtained the OHSAS 18001 certification from the Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems (SQS). This is the first certification OHSAS obtained by an Institute belonging to an University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

OHSAS 18001 is a framework for an occupational health and safety (ohs) management system and is a part of the OHSAS 18000. The framework helps put in place the policies, procedures and controls needed for Institute in order to achieve the best possible working conditions and workplace health and safety, aligned to internationally recognize best practice.

The OHSAS specification allows MEMTi to:

  • Establish an OH&S management system to eliminate or minimise risk to employees and other interested parties who may be exposed to OH&S risks associated with its activities
  • Implement, maintain and continually improve an OH&S management system
  • Assure itself of its conformance with its stated OH&S policy
  • Demonstrate such conformance to others
  • Make a self-determination and declaration of conformance with this OHSAS specification.

OHSAS 18001 has been obtained with the goal of having a system to assure a good management and safety of the laboratories. The certification is the result of the will of SUPSI and of the Department of Innovative Technologies, together with the commitment of more than 50 employee that, for more than a year, have worked to analyse and adjust the workflows to make them compliant with the certification.
