Fatigue is a feeling of weakness or a decrease in performance during physical and cognitive activities.
This symptom is considered to be one of the main causes of impaired quality of life among persons with neurological, muscular, cardiovascular or neoplastic disorders.
Nevertheless, our understanding of the mechanisms underlying fatigue is incomplete due to its complexity and subjective nature, but also because objective measurement tools are lacking.
The objective of this research line is to investigate the central and peripheral components of muscle fatigue by means of surface electromyography (sEMG) in different populations.
Novel parameters of fatigue extracted from the sEMG signal will improve the assessment of central and peripheral fatigue, thereby allowing the setting of more effective rehabilitation protocols to reduce muscle fatigue.
