Formazione Studia all'Università degli Studi di Cagliari ottenendo la Laurea in Ingegneria Civile (summa cum laude) nel luglio del 1990. Dall'anno accademico 1990/91 si trasferisce presso il Politecnico di Torino e nel 1994 ottiene il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca (PhD) in Ingegneria strutturale.

Esperienze professionali Nel 1992 è Visiting Scholar all'University of Cincinnati. Dal 1994 al 1996 svolge il post-dottorato presso il Joint Research Centre della Commissione Europea dove dal 1996 è stato Agente Scientifico. Dal 1997 al 2001 lavora presso una Società di Ingegneria ed un laboratorio di prova su materiali di Lugano. Dal 2000 è docente. Nel 2002 si unisce a tempo pieno alla SUPSI dove nel giugno del 2004 diventa professore.

Competenze Comportamento dinamico dei materiali ad alta velocità di deformazione. Caratterizzazione meccanica di materiali in condizioni estreme di carico e temperatura.

Riconoscimenti Autore di 200 pubblicazioni (h-index = 28, Scopus 2022). Nel 2021 è presente nella Stanford University World's Top 2% Scientists. Presidente DYMAT "European association for the promotion of research into the dynamic behaviour of materials and its applications" dal 2015 al 2018.
