The paradigm of low-cost consumer products with a limited lifespan is coming to an end. In Europe, there is a push to change their design, through designs that allow products to have multiple lifecycles once its original purpose has been fulfilled.
At the same time, many companies are abandoning the linear economy in favor of the circular economy. This is a real strategic reorientation and an investment for the future.
The first step in this transition is to monitor consumption, the supply chain, and waste products. In this way, we can begin to imagine new methods, collaborations, and new ways to create value from what until recently was considered waste or an inevitable cost.
In this sense, knowledge is power.
We discuss this with:
Rosario Pirrotta, scientific collaborator at the Laboratory of Sustainable Production Systems and head of SAS Lifecycle Assessment and SAS Circular Economy;
Alessandro Fontana, senior lecturer and researcher at the Institute of Systems and Technologies for Sustainable Production (ISTePS) at SUPSI.
