The Open Day is always a special opportunity to explore university life up close. On Friday, 27 February 2026, the Department of Environment Constructions and Design SUPSI opened its doors to 357 participants, who had the chance to meet lecturers, students, alumni from the various Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes.
The day offered an overview of a wide range of degree programs, creative and technical professions and their career opportunities through presentations, visits and small exhibitions. It also featured the “Dialogue Space” – a moment for discussion to clarify doubts, gather information and ask questions – and the “Discovery Space”, where visitors could explore opportunities by visiting different stations: those of the Career, experience and guidance Service, SUPSI International, the Learning Coach, the FabLab (Digital Fabrication Laboratory) and the Startup Garage for SUPSI students.
There was great interest in the workshops, which ranged from building mini structures and bridges (Civil Engineering) to using microscopes and scientific instruments to obtain information about the conservation state of certain materials, as well as discovering techniques and materials for decorating surfaces (Conservation and Restoration). Participants could also explore sensors, switches and potentiometers to experience electronics and physical computing when building prototypes (Interaction Design), design an environment using a model combining colours and materials (Interior Architecture), design small buildings (Architecture), and experiment with podcast production by simulating the entire process using illuminated backdrops, microphones and mixers to create engaging content (Visual Communication with RSI Wetube).
The presentation of the preparatory courses was also highly appreciated. These sessions illustrated how to access Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes when direct admission is not possible. One example is the Bachelor study with integrated practice (PiBS), aimed at students who wish to attend the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and who hold either an academic high school diploma or a professional diploma not related to the construction field. The PiBS includes one year of professional experience during the third year of studies to consolidate professional skills directly in the field.
In short, the Open Day offered a clear view of the educational programmes and of a Campus that is a vibrant and lively space.
