The Breakpoint research was designed to investigate the set-up of digital educational ecosystems, i.e. adaptive socio-technical systems composed of a biotic and an a-biotic part, in constant mutual relation and transformation.
The research focused on the role played by interactions between subjects, space and mediators. Qualitative data was collected through collaborative research, in which lecturer and researcher co-sited the investigation, co-operated and co-produced the results. The latter show that the choice of devices, understood not only as technological tools, but as spaces and times of the teaching action and roles of the subjects involved (Rivoltella, Rossi, 2019), guides the design and is part of a complex system of interactions with the subjects and the environment. The teacher must be clear about the role of technology in his design, which must redefine the entire activity, enhancing the active role of the student in the co-construction of learning.
