The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) has opened one full time (100%) position for a PostDoc Researcher in the area of Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing with a research focus on deep learning and large language models architectures, at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI) within the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI), located in Lugano. The degree of employment is 100%, with a contract starting on 01.05.2026, or on a mutually agreed date.
The researcher will work within the Intelligent Systems group on topics related to the design and implementation of multi-agent systems based on natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs). In addition, they will develop frameworks to apply these systems to software engineering (SE). The researcher will contribute to the creation of models and datasets in the AI4SE domain.

Duties and responsibilities
- Innovative fundamental research on multi-agent systems.
- Innovative fundamental research on large language models (LLMs).
- Development of multi-agent frameworks.
- Development of applied research projects in collaboration with industrial partners.
- Publish in leading journals and conferences.
- Supervision of junior researchers.
Requirements
Technical Background and Skills- PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- Practical experience with artificial intelligence systems.
- Excellent programming skills in high-level languages (Python).
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Solid publication record in software engineering (EMSE, JSS, etc.).
- Knowledge of generative AI algorithms.
- Knowledge of large language models (LLMs).
- Knowledge of multi-agent systems.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team and in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to mentor junior researchers.
- Independence and autonomy.
- Experience in framework development.
- Experience applying machine learning (ML) models to source code.
- Experience with static analysis tools and source-code parsing.
- Experience creating textual/code datasets for training ML models.
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) models.
- Experience with community-detection algorithms (Leiden, Louvain, etc.).
- Knowledge of frameworks: tree-sitter, a2a-sdk, vLLM.
- Preferably good written and spoken Italian.
