Veronica Passi has always wanted to work in the healthcare sector. She enrolled for a Bachelor's degree in Nursing to gain a global view of the hospital world and confidence in her own abilities.
Why did you choose to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Nursing?
I followed a non-linear path. I graduated from the Specialised School for Health and Social Professions with a focus on OSS. I then obtained my high school diploma and thought that SUPSI could be an excellent springboard for my future: the training allows you to acquire organisational and communication resources and is the first step on the Swiss university path. Once I have finished my Bachelor's degree, I would like to study medicine in Lausanne thanks to the skills I have acquired.
Have you always been interested in the world of healthcare?
Yes! I have wanted to work in this field all my life. I've always thought about it and I try to inform myself as much as possible about what's going on in healthcare. I am a very organised person and I like to imagine that I am creating a linearity, an order, in the great complexity and the thousands of variables you are faced with in a hospital. Then there is the human aspect: being in front of someone who is suffering puts you to the test. You have to find the right words and the right ways. These are difficult contexts, but I am convinced that they make you grow as a person, as an adult and as a member of society.
What do you expect from your practical experiences at SUPSI?
I hope to gain more confidence in the working environment and to have a global view of what a hospital is. I have high expectations of teamwork, which can always stimulate curiosity. Everything changes very quickly in this sector. You never get to know everything, you are never done learning. The more things you do, the more courses you take, the more you come out enriched.
You have just arrived at SUPSI, what are your first impressions?
I find the degree course well organised and stimulating. I can't wait to start with the first courses and internships. I'd like to do professional practice at the OSC, I haven't yet had any experience in the socio-psychiatric field, or even in oncology. However, I am open to everything, because I think every area of healthcare has its appeal.
What are your personal wishes for this first year and for your entire training at SUPSI?
I hope to enjoy these three years in a carefree manner and to welcome all the experiences I will have, so that I can treasure them and move forward in my personal journey.
