Employee Profile

Matteo Luigi Piricò was born in Milan, 31 July 1976.
His background includes studies in musical disciplines (Organ, Composition, and Choral Conducting), in the Human Sciences (Philosophy and Educational Psychology), and in Music Therapy.In 2019 he earned a Ph.D. in Humanities with a co-tutorship in Psychology (active until the pre-doctoral examination stage) at the University of Geneva. His dissertation examined the transferability of musical skills across key-competence domains, bridging cognitive science and general didactics. He also holds three lower-secondary teaching certifications and an upper-secondary teaching diploma.
He has worked as a cultural journalist for newspapers and periodicals. He previously taught Music, History, and Evangelical Religion at the lower-secondary level. From 2009 to 2019 he served as Expert in Music Education for Canton Ticino and, in 2020, was appointed Expert in Educational Sciences. He is currently Project Leader of the Piano di studio della scuola dell’obbligo ticinese and Associate Professor of General and Music Didactics. He collaborates with various scientific communities on curricular design and cognitive sciences applied to education.
Curriculum design and competence-based education, educational assessment, and general and music didactics, with a focus on the cognitive foundations of teaching and learning processes.
