In his second year of the Bachelor in Pre-Primary Education, Nicolas always knew what he wanted to do when he grew up: become a teacher. After several years of professional practice in educational projects and experience in an inclusive classroom, he decided to embark on this training path, guided by two clear principles: his heart and his head towards achieving his goals.
Nicolas, what made you decide to pursue this degree programme?
Embarking on this training programme is a choice guided as much by my mind as by my heart. Rationally, I know it is the right path; instinctively, I know I could not have done otherwise. Becoming a teacher is my goal: a vocation that grows and that I fall in love with every day.
Why did you choose a university education?
Before embarking on this new adventure, I gained work experience in educational projects, completing several internships in various extracurricular centres and in an inclusive classroom. The time was right for a new challenge, a goal that would help me grow and enrich not only my present but also my future.
What do you particularly appreciate about your experience at SUPSI?
I am very satisfied with my decision to attend a professional university, especially in terms of the balance between theoretical lessons and professional practice, which I believe to be optimal. I also find the gradual introduction of students to the world of nursery schools particularly useful, as it creates a well-balanced and structured training programme. In addition, each semester, the programme offers us the opportunity to discover a new school in the Ticino region by working within it. I think this is a fantastic opportunity!
Was there any experience during your journey that particularly surprised you?
Definitely Theatre Week, an educational experience that involves us students in the collective creation of a play. Participating in this module allowed me to step outside my comfort zone and enjoy a formative experience that I will remember for a long time to come.
Your degree course will lead you to become a nursery school teacher. How do you imagine the “Nicolas the teacher” of tomorrow?
I would like to be a transparent teacher, able to collaborate with families and show them what happens in the classroom so that they understand the meaning behind the work we teachers do. I see this sharing as a first step towards building positive relationships based on dialogue and mutual trust.
