Test System for Control Algorithms in Power Electronics
SUPSI Image Focus
The aim of the project is to design and develop a test system for the regulation and control systems of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) produced by the multinational company ABB (Quartino site). The system created will be integrated as a development tool in the company's own research and innovation departments.
In order to be able to certify and guarantee customers the specifications of interest, it is very important to carry out specific tests already during the early stages of the development of a new product to verify or ascertain that the solutions adopted are correct.
These verification activities are therefore fundamental, but at the same time laborious and complex to perform without the use of specific tools. In the UPS environment in particular, it is often necessary to have a multi-channel signal generator that can be easily configured in terms of: signal amplitudes, phase frequency, shape, etc.
ABB, needing a similar, highly customised tool for its own purposes, proposed this diploma project to realise it.
Solving the problem gave the graduate the opportunity to work on many interesting aspects of electrical engineering as well as to interface and collaborate with professionals in the field.
The successfully completed diploma work enabled the graduate to be awarded the Talenthesis 2021 Prize for the best thesis of his degree course. At the end of his studies, the student was also hired by the commissioning company, ABB.
