Nicolò is a Master of Science in Engineering graduate with a profile in Data Science. After his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering, he chose this specialization to delve into advanced analytics (data analytics, machine learning), engineering, and data-driven product development.
How would you describe your course of study?
To the question "How did you find yourself at SUPSI?" my direct answer is: I would do it again! This confidence comes from the great value of the knowledge gained and the practical experiences. It has been a demanding and challenging path, approached with excellent fellow students and experienced faculty.
What is the strongpoint of the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI)?
The hands-on approach of the DTI provided me with awareness in the subjects, technical tools, and an excellent aptitude for analysis and problem solving. The professionalism and helpfulness of the faculty was helpful in consolidating concepts and establishing stimulating dialogues and exchanges of ideas that broadened my vision, during and outside the classroom.
In the projects, collaboration with colleagues also fostered the development of skills and soft skills necessary for teamwork, including communication, openness to confrontation and team cohesion to achieve certain goals. The educational background is consistent with the demands of the working world, and the part-time study formula allowed me to attend the Master's program in parallel with my work activity.
Finally, I acquired important skills not only through classes, but also through projects and thesis conducted at a research institute of global importance, IDSIA USI-SUPSI, collaborating with experts in the field.
What are you currently involved in and what are your future goals?
I am currently working at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI).
I am involved in basic and applied research. Data is my daily resource, and with it algorithms, machine learning models, computer science and mathematics.
In the future, I aspire to do challenging work that has a positive impact on society and the planet, while keeping motivation and personal growth alive.
What would you recommend to a current and/or prospective student?
My advice is to take advantage of the benefits of DTI education, so don't stay on the sidelines, always delve deeper, don't settle, step up, don't be afraid of confrontation, and because the course will be intense, know how to carve out time for sports and recreation.
