Experience Map: paper map for Ticino Turismo
SUPSI Image Focus
The project, led by lecturer Roberto Schneeberger, aims to create a map to discover the territory. Structure and contents are designed to offer an experience to users and guide them on a real exploratory path.
The map represents in paper form the authentic experience that is possible in the area. Through the key concept of experience, it wants to convey to users the feeling of exploration and discovery through direct contact with reality. This desire is carried through by the structure and arrangement of the contents: the fold itself has an exploratory function and shows the regional map one part at a time.
The second concept behind the design is the route, to offer an almost guided exploration of the map facilitated by symbols and signs to aid understanding. The aim is to create an interaction with the tool and induce the users to consult it in a direction, just as one would physically do when facing a route.
These concepts are echoed within the artefact by the interlocking of the parts (in the back) and the ease of reading (in the front). Users are led to explore the map from a visual point of view. Once the mechanism of using the content is understood, the reading turns into an adventure in search of textual and photographic content.
