14 May 2024
from 12.00 to 14.00
The promotion of democracy and democratic competences at school can take place in several ways and can use several channels. Often, its promotion occurs unconsciously. However, its strong reference to political issues should not create fear: it is possible to experience the essence of democracy without talking about politics.
During the Breakpoint, an attempt will be made to show the transversality of the topic from a theoretical and practical point of view, including through the presentation of the Competence Framework for a Democratic Culture promoted by the Council of Europe.
The meeting will be an opportunity to present the work of the newly formed Commission on Education for Democracy, which was set up on the initiative of the Directorate of the Department of Education and Learning / University of Teacher Education (DFA/ASP) in September 2023.
The commission's tasks include monitoring scientific and educational developments and trends in the field of education for democracy, in particular
- the provision of basic and continuing education on the subject;
- the promotion of debate on the topic within the four mandates;
- the assumption of the role of interlocutor on the topic;
- the identification of people from outside and inside the DFA/ASP capable of taking on the role of experts associated with the commission.
- At the moment, the research promoted within the commission aims to build up a framework capable of comprehensively illustrating what is currently being done in this area at DFA/ASP, all in comparison with the situation in other Swiss ASPs.
