The course provides a practical overview of the role of apparel (clothing and accessories) in the leisure industry, with a focus on management practices such as sponsoring, branding and licensing for sports, tourism and culture, within geographically and culturally diverse market contexts. Students will gain an appreciation of the functional and symbolic role of dress (historical and current), as well as understand the basics of how to manage and deploy an apparel strategy in business firms and other organizations active within the entertainment, sports, tourism or cultural sector. Particular attention will be given to technologies for apparel innovation and sustainability. Guest talks with experts will provide insights into actual cases. If possible, a company visit will also be included.
