“Today I feel more active, proactive and able to promote an inclusive and collaborative school environment”
Interview with Maddalena Camplani, Headteacher at the Cugnasco-Gerra School
For Maddalena Camplani, the CAS in Accompaniment and Support in Education was a turning point, both personally and professionally. The opportunity to interact with colleagues from different backgrounds, to immediately put what she had learned into practice and to receive constant feedback contributed to a profound change in her career path. ‘Greater awareness of my abilities and a broader view of the school context led me to a change of role: from teacher to headmistress,’ she says. ‘Today, I feel more active, proactive and able to promote an inclusive and collaborative school.’
What is the added value of the training course you took?
The added value was definitely the opportunity to interact with professionals from different backgrounds and educational institutions. These exchanges allowed us to address common issues, find shared solutions and hone fundamental skills such as listening and constructive dialogue, which are central to my current role. Another decisive aspect was the practical dimension of the course: being able to apply the techniques learned immediately made the training concrete and effective. The feedback received from trainers and colleagues was a valuable opportunity for growth, helping me to focus on my strengths and areas for improvement.
How has it affected your professional life and well-being?
The CAS has had a significant impact on both my professional and personal life. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to try new things, helping me to meet different people and discover different educational environments. This experience has helped me develop a broader and more inclusive view of school, which goes beyond individual subjects and values teamwork. The training allowed me to redefine my professional goals with greater clarity, strengthening my identity and motivation. This path led me to a change of role and, more generally, to a sense of well-being and continuous stimulation in my daily work.
Is there a skill you have acquired that you now consider indispensable?
Two years after completing my training, I recognise how active listening and defining needs have become central to my work. This means stopping, listening carefully and considering each situation from different perspectives in order to gain a more complete view before acting. The systemic approach allows me to take the right distance from events, carefully assess their risks and potential, and approach every decision or intervention with greater awareness and responsibility.
